About Me

My photo
I love writing. If you want to know anything else just ask me or else read up! I have two blogs ("A Pen Itching To Bleed Onto Paper" and "The Rebirth of J"). One of my blogs (A Pen...) is updated more frequently than the other. "The Rebirth” is more of a story I am writing with my life whereas "A Pen" would be my random thoughts past, present, and future in this unfolding journey I call life. If this is your first time reading my blog, please visit Post #2 for the month of April 2008 in my "A Pen" blog archives... Thanks!

Springsteen...

When I was around 5 years old I remember hearing my father listen to music while he got drunk in the living room. At the time I didnt appreciate any of his music. I hated seeing him intoxicated because I never knew when he was gonna be nice or completely flip out into a drunken rage at which point all the kids would run into one room and lock the door. Until this day I still can't look at a can of Budweiser the same way. I'm not going to get into the details and emotions of a situation like that because this specific post isn't meant to be that kind of blog. It's about the celebration of music.

My father used to sit out in the living room and play record after record and tape after tape of what I thought at the time, was the most God awful music that I had ever heard. Not only would he play his music but he would play it, replay it, and then play it again. They became anthems to my fathers intoxication binges which could last weeks at a time. (FYI He is christian now, delivered from his alcoholism, Praise God!)

For the longest time I would hear certain songs and they would trigger past emotions of those times. but within the last 4 years or so I started paying attention to the stuff he listened to. Vicente Fernandez, Jose Jose, Camilo Sesto were all examples of great spanish music that he listened to but I had pushed away. But then the english music he listened turned out to be classic rock that seriously was bad ass! lol He would listen 2 the boss himself Bruce Springsteen who I am currently listening to. Hits like "Im on Fire" "Glory Days" and of course "Born in the USA" were being placed right in front of me and I never really payed attention. I want to see if I can get his newest CD. He listened to Creedence Clearwater revival and actually had a fat collection of their tapes. There were many others that he listened to but I don't remember them by name. I never realized how cool my dad's musical taste was until recently. i guess something good came from those difficult times.

My mother wouldn't allow any of that kind of music in our home, so no doubt when I left home I couldn't get enough of it. Creedence Clearwater Revival was a favorite group, Kansas "Dust In The Wind"...and the Allman Brothers...

They don't make music like they used to. (Hugs)Indigo

That is a good way to look at a difficult situation. I'm so happy for your Dad and for you that he is a christian now.

Jose Jose's music is awesome. Camilo Seso's isn't bad either. It's true... good musical taste, lol

I associate music with a lot of memories. I use it to get through hard times.

(My biological father is a recovering alcoholic also a Christian now. Luckily, I was raised with a different daddy)
