About Me

My photo
I love writing. If you want to know anything else just ask me or else read up! I have two blogs ("A Pen Itching To Bleed Onto Paper" and "The Rebirth of J"). One of my blogs (A Pen...) is updated more frequently than the other. "The Rebirth” is more of a story I am writing with my life whereas "A Pen" would be my random thoughts past, present, and future in this unfolding journey I call life. If this is your first time reading my blog, please visit Post #2 for the month of April 2008 in my "A Pen" blog archives... Thanks!

Song of the month (March): Lynyrd Skynyrd – Tuesday’s Gone

Although I was going to post a black keys song, ANY black Keys song, instead I decided to go with the rightful song of the month. I did get into the black keys though. I discovered them in March, downloaded one of their songs and listened to a lot of their stuff on spotify.  They are a great band and if I had become attached to one particular song, I probably would have added it.

However, at the end of last month I went on a huge beach side camping trip with my buddies. I played the role of DJ for the party and played some of my favorite party jams. On the last day of the trip we all stood around and drank a few last beers. We packed up a few things, and we looked around that beautiful campground and it was then that I got a bright idea. I pulled out my phone and played Lynyrd Skynyrds “Tuesday’s Gone.” It is a tune that carrys nostalgia, good bye’s and good memories throughout its entire 7 minutes. Wen I played it, everybody stayed quiet for a moment and listened. My buddy mike finally broke the silence with, “This song is making me all nostalgic and $#!t! haha My job was done. I am also working on a video with this song as its soundtrack.

Lynyrd Skynyrd – Tuesday’s Gone

Train roll on, on down the line,
Won't you please take me far, far away.
Now I feel the wind blow, outside my door,
I'm leavin' my woman at home, oh yeah.
Tuesday's gone with the wind,
My baby's gone, gone with the wind.
And I don't know, oh, where I'm goin'.
I just want to be left alone.
When this train ends, I'll try again.
I'm leavin' my woman at home.
My baby's gone

Tuesday's gone with the wind.
Tuesday's gone with the wind.
Tuesday's gone with the wind.
My baby's gone, with the wind.
Train roll on
Tuesday's gone with the wind.
Tuesday's gone with the wind.
Tuesday's gone with the wind.
My baby's gone, with the wind.

Train roll on
Train roll on many miles from my home, see I'm,
I'm ridin' my blues, babe, blues away, yeah.
But Tuesday you see, a she had to be free.
Somehow I got to, to carry on.
My baby's gone.

Tuesday's gone with the wind.
Tuesday's gone with the wind.
Tuesday's gone with the wind.
My baby's gone, with the wind.

Train roll on...train roll on...
Roll on train...roll on train...roll on train
Train roll on...the train, it rolls on
Train rolls on I can't change, I can't change,
I can't change, I can't change,I can't change...
Ride on train
I can't change
Train roll on
Lord, I can't change
I can't change

Song of the Month (February): Augustana - Sunday Best

I always knew I liked them but never realized how much until I decided to finish downloading their “All the Stars and Boulevards” album (already had 5 songs off of it) and I realized that I have all of their albums! They are really good albums too. ATSAB is probably their best. Well anyway, I just love this song and it has been stuck on my mind all month and that is why it is the song of the month, enjoy!

Augustana - Sunday Best

When she's sleeping on the sofa,
When she's laying in her Sunday best,
when she's turning over Friday,
I could swear I'm sleeping less and less...
and the ocean's getting warmer,
and California's on her mind,
Los Angeles is tired, but we always seem to feel alright,

but I won't...
no I won't...

Cause she's already out the door,
she's already out of here
she's already gone away...already gone away...

When I'm coming over Sunday
and I think about you all the time,
I wonder what you're doin
I wonder why you never cry,
When Boston's always raining,
And we never ever seemed alive,
I sung about you once now, I guess I might as well

But I won't...(don't look back [x2])
No I won't... (don't look back [x2])
No I won't... (don't look back [x2])

Cause I'm already out the door,
I'm already out of here
I've already gone away...already gone away...

Well I'm already out the door,
I'm already out of here
I've already gone away...already gone away...

Don't look back, don't look back

Song of the Month (January): Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight

I watched a movie about a 10 year high school reunion and there was a cover of this song on it.Its a very nostalgic song. It reminds me of many memories. Like when i was in high school and i was heavy into rap so the first time i heard this song, it was annoying to me. Or when I used to watch Road rules as a kid and i heard it again and it just made sense in the context in which it was presented. It was one of those situations where you heard the song hundreds of times when it was popular, yet it never made sense to you and then it disappears just as fast as it came. Then one day it reappears later in life on some classic rock station as it did for me and it not only makes sense, but it brings a familiar feeling with it and i loved it. That's why it was my song in January.Enjoy it folks!

Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight

Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel
Believe, believe in me, believe
That life can change, that you're not stuck in vain
We're not the same, we're different tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight
And you know you're never sure
But you're sure you could be right
If you held yourself up to the light
And the embers never fade in your city by the lake
The place where you were born
Believe, believe in me, believe
In the resolute urgency of now
And if you believe there's not a chance tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight
We'll crucify the insincere tonight
We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
We'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
The indescribable moments of your life tonight
The impossible is possible tonight
Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight

Song of The Month: Led Zeppelin - Going to California

Amazing song by Zeppelin! Heard it once on the radio and fell in love with it. Give it a listen, I'm sure you will love it. It's also the song that was on my mind on our way back to California from Washington State, first visit to my wife's parents since getting married. Well, hope you guys enjoy the song as much as I did!

Led Zeppelin - Going to California

Spent my days with a woman unkind, Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine.
Made up my mind to make a new start, Going To California with an aching in my heart.
Someone told me there's a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.
Took my chances on a big jet plane, never let them tell you that they're all the same.
The sea was red and the sky was grey, wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today.
The mountains and the canyons started to tremble and shake
as the children of the sun began to awake.

Seems that the wrath of the Gods
Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow;
I think I might be sinking.
Throw me a line if I reach it in time
I'll meet you up there where the path
Runs straight and high.

To find a queen without a king,
They say she plays guitar and cries and sings... la la la
Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn
Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born.
Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams,
Telling myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.

Song Of The Month: Menomena – Muscle’N Flow

Welcome to February folks! It’s flowing by quickly isn’t it? I didn’t write a blog in all of January! Pretty Terrible! Well anyway, this song here I heard on the trailer to “Blue Like Jazz” Which should be coming out in April. Well anyway, enjoy it!
Menomena – Muscle’N Flow

Oh in the morning
I stumble
my way towards
the mirror and my makeup
it's light out
and I now
face just what I'm made of

There's so much more
left to do
Well I'm not young
But I'm not through

Oh in the evening
I stumble
my way towards another day
we struggle
it's dark out
it's time now
that I pick up my hustle

Make a call
make some cash
make your mark
make it last
tiny scores
tiny rooms
lofty goals
met too soon
too soon

Well here I stand
a broken man
If I could I would raise my hands
I come before you humbly
If I could I'd be on my knees

Come lay down your head upon my chest
feel my heart beat feel my unrest
If Jesus could only wash my feet
Then I'd get up strong and muscle on
Oh in the morning
I stumble
my way towards
the mirror and my makeup
it's light out
and I now
face just what I'm made of

There's so much more
left to do
Well I'm not young
But I'm not through

tiny scores
tiny rooms
lofty goals
met too soon

Song of the Month: Radiohead - True Love Waits

This is a Radiohead song that I had never heard before but that i ABSOLUTELY LOVED the first time that I heard it, which was earlier this month. Thom Yorke is a fantastic writer and an amazing guitar player. This wraps up my year of Music! enjoy!

Radiohead - True Love Waits

I'll drown my beliefs
To have your babies
I'll dress like your nurse
And wash your swollen feet

Just don't leave
Don't leave

I'm not living
I'm just killing time
Your tiny hands
Your crazy kitten smile

Just don't leave
Don't leave

And true love waits
In haunted attics
And true love lives
On lollipops and crisps

Just don't leave
Don't leave

Just don't leave
Don't leave

Song of the Day - Anberlin - Impossible

I thought that I had already used this song as my song of the day this year but apparently I didn't. Today's selection has been stuck in my head more than once this year due to it's "catchiness." The beat is infectious, the lyrics are deep, and stephen Christian sounds wonderful on it. The song of the day is Anberlin's "Impossible" off of their "Dark is the Way Light is the Place" album which if you remember didn't have extremely favorable review on this site. Nonetheless this song is probably one of the best that Anberlin has come up with and that is why it is my song of the day... well that and i can't get it out of my head! enjoy!!

You make my teeth clinch and my hands shake
Do you ever see what you do to me?
Wearing me out, it's wearing me out
But I'm wearing you down

You're impossible love me
So impossible to .....
I'm wearing you out just wearing you out
But I'm wearing you down

Take what you want from me
It means nothing now
Take everything from me it means nothing now
Not so easy to forgive, harder to forget
Take what you want

What I can do to you
is wearing you down
Can I begin to wear you down?

Take what you want from me
It means nothing now
Take everything from me it means nothing now
Not so easy to forgive, harder to forget
Take what you want from me

I'm impossible to figure out
So impossible you had to doubt

Take what you want from me
It means nothing now
Take everything from me it means nothing now
Not so easy to forgive, harder to forget
Take what you want from me it means nothing now
Take everything from me it means nothing now
Not so easy to forgive, harder to forget
Take what you want from me

Take what you want from me ..

Review: Say Anything - Say Anything

****

The neurotic and yet ingenious ramblings of prolific writer Max Bemis over the mixed tempo/style music of Say Anything makes for the bands best release to date. A return to their original sound, Say Anything’s self titled fourth album is true to their roots as well as to their fans.
Musically the band covers various genres and includes them into their hyper alternative punk rock sound which creatively separates the band from all others out there. Lyrically chief songwriter Max Bemis has matured nicely over his past few albums sounding more serious and yet playful as usual. Bemis has a gift at writing but also at putting himself out bare through his lyrics giving his fans a snapshot of his heart and intellect all in this hour-long listen.
Jems in this album would include the acoustic sounding intro with a great build up of Fed to Death; the first single of Hate Everyone which displays Max Bemis’ ability to appeal to outcast kids as well as those members of society that used to fit into this category at a younger age. Other milestones would include the semi-protest against hypocrisy and apathy in the music business Mara and me; the surprisingly positive Do better which includes the lyrics: “You can do better, you can be the greatest man in the world; the up beat Crush’d and the 50’s rock soundtrack to a possessive boyfriends anthem in Property.
