About Me

My photo
I love writing. If you want to know anything else just ask me or else read up! I have two blogs ("A Pen Itching To Bleed Onto Paper" and "The Rebirth of J"). One of my blogs (A Pen...) is updated more frequently than the other. "The Rebirth” is more of a story I am writing with my life whereas "A Pen" would be my random thoughts past, present, and future in this unfolding journey I call life. If this is your first time reading my blog, please visit Post #2 for the month of April 2008 in my "A Pen" blog archives... Thanks!

Song Of The Month - The Damnwells - Feast Of Hearts

In case You didn't know, the Damnwells is the best bad EVER! I have been into their music for about two ears now and I am absolutely amazed at Alex Dezen's Ability to write a meaningful lyric as well as play a mean guitar. PLEASE do yourself a favor and pick up one of their CD's. if you want a free album of theirs, hit me with a comment and i will send you a link, but only if you promise to listen to it everyday for a week! lol i promise you will love it! anyway, this is "feast of hearts" a song that i am really digging right now. check it out!

The Damnwells - Feast Of Hearts

There's a doubt
Like a plague
Burning down skyscrapers
In my brain
She says she knows everything
Except my name

We saw the ocean from the East coast
Coming for Coney Island
And all the freak-show ghosts
There's nothing to it, she says
Puts her hands against the midnight sky
The summer that Elvis died

There was a feast of hearts
This little world was ours
And on that radio played
A song with your name

I took the wheel with one hand
And drove through the Rockies
Without a plan
I kissed the dust from your lips
Then you kissed the Rio Grand

We saw the rivers and the black seas
Somewhere in Arizona
Was a Joshua tree
She said she loved me
What was I supposed to believe?

There was a feast of hearts
This little world was ours
And on that radio played
A song with your name

There was nothing to say
So I said something wrong
When there's something to lose,
Someone else to beat upon
There was nothing to say
Nothing to say
What took so long?

There was a feast of hearts
This little world was ours
And on that radio played
A song with your name

There was a feast of hearts
This little world was ours
And on that radio played
A song with your name

A song with your name

You DAMNWELL better listen, lol

Ever listen to a band and think, “man, they’re going to make it one day!” And it’s great when you find out they actually did make it big. But what about if you find out they didn’t make it. In fact, what if they are an outstanding band with a brilliant lead singer that was picked up by a major label and later dropped? And what if major labels still weren’t paying attention to them?
Enter The Damnwells, which could easily be considered Brooklyn’s Finest. The Damnwells, led by lead singer and guitar player Alex Dezen, has been on the music scene since 2001. They are one of those rare bands whose albums have evolved musically and lyrically while maintaining their golden indie sound. Their driving force would unquestionably have to be the lyrics of Alex Dezen. Few brains in music are as gifted as Dezen’s. Dezen, who is a graduate of the MFA program at the University of Iowa, has also taught creative writing and Rhetoric at University of Iowa. And aside from being talented, having met Dezen I can attest that he is a humble, genuine all around great person. And with all that standing, somehow the Damnwells are still not breaking the top spots on the charts, still not being offered the major deals and still not getting the recognition they deserve in the music world.
It really irritates me to know that talentless hacks like lil wayne, lady gaga, and ke$ha control the airwaves, there is real talent sitting undiscovered, and waiting for the chance to prove themselves worthy of legendary status! Do me a favor, listen to some of The Damnwells material (below) and if you like it, pass it on, tell your friends to listen to them and tell them to tell their friends. And if you don’t like it, then don’t do a thing. Oh and make sure to tell me what you think about them in the comment section below!!

Quote of the day - 3/28/11

okay so there are two of them from the same article. I enjoyed them both.

"I guess that’s when you know you’re doomed to be a songwriter for better or worse is when every moment in your life is associated with a song lyric or a chord change."

"I always have visions of grandeur like that, but they never come to fruition."

30 Day Project: Day 13

Day 13 - A picture of your favorite band or artist.

Right now, this is the man! His name is Alex Dezen and he is the lead singer of one of the best bands I have ever heard, THE DAMNWELLS! You must understand that after meeting Benjamin Bratt and finding out he was a complete jerk, I was kind of worried to meet this guy. As it turns out he is not only way more talented than I thought (amazing voice in person) he is also a very humble, down to earth guy. This band has the potential to be the very best and I know they will make it far in the business! PLEASE, do yourself a favor and check out this band!
I have included a bonus for you: a video of Alex Dezen performing one of their songs, "come to me." Listen, enjoy!
