About Me

My photo
I love writing. If you want to know anything else just ask me or else read up! I have two blogs ("A Pen Itching To Bleed Onto Paper" and "The Rebirth of J"). One of my blogs (A Pen...) is updated more frequently than the other. "The Rebirth” is more of a story I am writing with my life whereas "A Pen" would be my random thoughts past, present, and future in this unfolding journey I call life. If this is your first time reading my blog, please visit Post #2 for the month of April 2008 in my "A Pen" blog archives... Thanks!

Soundtrack to 2012!!

2012 was an amazing year. I don't really have any complaints about 2012 at all. It was a year of growth, maturation, and enjoying life. It was a year where God proved himself as my provider once again,  my girlfriend became my wife, and my friends showed me their true colors. I enjoyed camping trips, bachelor parties, fishing trips, and great times with amazing people. All I can say is that God was wonderful to me this year.

A few observations for the year:

1. This year had 13 songs in the soundtrack. The extra song was included because this was a special year. I married the love of my life this year. She walked down the aisle to this song and it will forever remind me of my beautiful bride walking toward me to join with me in holy matrimony.
2.Country dominated the list once again. It's funny to think that just a few years ago i hated the genre and now I listen to country over anything else.
3. The list doesn't really reflect my expansion in musical tastes. Blues, Jazz, 70's rock, I listen to so much and yet my songs of the month make it look like i only listen to country and rock.
4. This is my 4th year of Soundtracks and I have no intention of stopping!
5. Jason Aldean had 5 songs in the year. Those are two songs from two separate albums, not from the same one.
6. This year i rediscovered Vinyl and along with that - Fleetwood Mac!
7. I still have the greatest musical taste out of anyone i know, lol!

January: Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks
February: Menomena – Muscle’N Flow
March:  Jason Aldean - Fly Over States
April: The Shins - Caring Is Creepy
May: Tracy Lawrence Feat. Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney - Find Out Who Your Friends Are
May (Extra): Turning Page - Sleeping At Last
June: Eric Church - Springsteen
July: Matt & Toby - Good Boys
August: Led Zeppelin - Going to California
September: Karla Davis - Payphone (Cover)
October: Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
November: Jason Aldean - Drink One For Me
December: Brad Paisley - Southern Comfort Zone

Happy New Year Everybody!!

Soundtrack to 2011

I can’t believe the year is already over! I read over my two past yearly soundtracks and I realize that I have amazing taste in music! Lol This year had highs and lows and they are clearly expressed in my musical choices for 2011. I started the year with a lot of worship music which got me through some tough times. As the year progressed It got better and that is reflected around May with the Kanye west song. The year definitely peaked in August when I started camping with my buddies more often and really solidified “Dirt Road Anthem” as one of my favorite songs of the year. I finished off the year with A great Radiohead song that wraps up the year perfectly.

A couple of observations for the year:
1. My musical tastes have expanded – where as last years music was a lot of country, especially Kenny Chesney, this year had a lot of different artists’ music.
2. Not enough worship music – I have not been listening to much worship music lately and that is not a good thing.
3. A different artist every month - with the exception of January and March (Brian Johnson sings with Bethel live, but technically they are different artists) This year had a different artist every month, showing a growing taste in music.
4. I made it a point to find a “Song of the month” for every month. I didn’t intentionally lok for a song, but naturally I get stuck on one song for days or weeks and I always made a mental note and stayed faithful to write it in the blog here. That of course comes with one exception, August, where I made a mental note but forgot to write the song in.

With all that said, I give you My Soundtrack to 2011:
January: Brian Johnson - Love came down
February: Local Natives - Wide Eyes
March: Bethel Live - God I Look To You
April: Peter Gabriel - Book of Love
May: Kanye West - Good Life
June: Grizzly Bear - Ready, Able
July: The Damnwells - Feast Of Hearts
August: Jason Aldean – Dirtroad Anthem
September: Red Hot Chili Peppers - Police Station
October: Willie Nelson - The Scientist
November: Arcade Fire - Half Light I
December: Radiohead - True Love Waits

Soundtrack to 2010

2010 has been a year of change and learning to leave the past behind. I can honestly say I have been successful in both of those areas. This is the first year that I have been faithful to my schedule of selecting one song per month so I'm pretty excited about that. upon referring back to my old posts i started seeing some patterns and making some observations. I thought I would share those with you!

Observation #1 - There is way too much Kenny Chesney on here! - apparently this year was filled with kenny chesney hits from four different albums. He really is one of my favorite artists and by far my favorite country artist soit makes sense.
Observation #2 - not much variation in terms of artists. if you take all the kenny songs and the stuff by Augustana that's half a year! lol. None of this was planned, it just sort of happened that way. Nonetheless, that was the stuff i was listening to this year. It was fine at the start of the year, i guess the summer just brought some kenny around with it!
Observation #3 - These are some great songs! I know i personally will have a great time playing them.
Observation #4 - I need to discover new Genre's this year! most of this stuff is rock and country with the exception of April's song "come in my courts.

Well without further adieu I give you the Soundtrack to 2010!

Song of The Day in:
January: Aerosmith - Dream On
February: Augustana - Fire
March: Something Corporate - Ruthless
April: Deluge - Come In My Courts
May: Dashboard Confessional - The Brilliant Dance
June: Kenny Chesney - Ain't back yet
July: Augustana – Boston
August: Foo Fighters – Everlong
September: Kenny Chesney - You and Tequila
October: Kenny Chesney - Just Not Today
November: Anberlin – Impossible
December: Kenny Chesney - All I want for Christmas is a Real Good Tan
