About Me

My photo
I love writing. If you want to know anything else just ask me or else read up! I have two blogs ("A Pen Itching To Bleed Onto Paper" and "The Rebirth of J"). One of my blogs (A Pen...) is updated more frequently than the other. "The Rebirth” is more of a story I am writing with my life whereas "A Pen" would be my random thoughts past, present, and future in this unfolding journey I call life. If this is your first time reading my blog, please visit Post #2 for the month of April 2008 in my "A Pen" blog archives... Thanks!

Song of the Month (February): Augustana - Sunday Best

I always knew I liked them but never realized how much until I decided to finish downloading their “All the Stars and Boulevards” album (already had 5 songs off of it) and I realized that I have all of their albums! They are really good albums too. ATSAB is probably their best. Well anyway, I just love this song and it has been stuck on my mind all month and that is why it is the song of the month, enjoy!

Augustana - Sunday Best

When she's sleeping on the sofa,
When she's laying in her Sunday best,
when she's turning over Friday,
I could swear I'm sleeping less and less...
and the ocean's getting warmer,
and California's on her mind,
Los Angeles is tired, but we always seem to feel alright,

but I won't...
no I won't...

Cause she's already out the door,
she's already out of here
she's already gone away...already gone away...

When I'm coming over Sunday
and I think about you all the time,
I wonder what you're doin
I wonder why you never cry,
When Boston's always raining,
And we never ever seemed alive,
I sung about you once now, I guess I might as well

But I won't...(don't look back [x2])
No I won't... (don't look back [x2])
No I won't... (don't look back [x2])

Cause I'm already out the door,
I'm already out of here
I've already gone away...already gone away...

Well I'm already out the door,
I'm already out of here
I've already gone away...already gone away...

Don't look back, don't look back

Song of the Month (January): Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight

I watched a movie about a 10 year high school reunion and there was a cover of this song on it.Its a very nostalgic song. It reminds me of many memories. Like when i was in high school and i was heavy into rap so the first time i heard this song, it was annoying to me. Or when I used to watch Road rules as a kid and i heard it again and it just made sense in the context in which it was presented. It was one of those situations where you heard the song hundreds of times when it was popular, yet it never made sense to you and then it disappears just as fast as it came. Then one day it reappears later in life on some classic rock station as it did for me and it not only makes sense, but it brings a familiar feeling with it and i loved it. That's why it was my song in January.Enjoy it folks!

Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight

Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel
Believe, believe in me, believe
That life can change, that you're not stuck in vain
We're not the same, we're different tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight
And you know you're never sure
But you're sure you could be right
If you held yourself up to the light
And the embers never fade in your city by the lake
The place where you were born
Believe, believe in me, believe
In the resolute urgency of now
And if you believe there's not a chance tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight
We'll crucify the insincere tonight
We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
We'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
The indescribable moments of your life tonight
The impossible is possible tonight
Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight

Soundtrack to 2012!!

2012 was an amazing year. I don't really have any complaints about 2012 at all. It was a year of growth, maturation, and enjoying life. It was a year where God proved himself as my provider once again,  my girlfriend became my wife, and my friends showed me their true colors. I enjoyed camping trips, bachelor parties, fishing trips, and great times with amazing people. All I can say is that God was wonderful to me this year.

A few observations for the year:

1. This year had 13 songs in the soundtrack. The extra song was included because this was a special year. I married the love of my life this year. She walked down the aisle to this song and it will forever remind me of my beautiful bride walking toward me to join with me in holy matrimony.
2.Country dominated the list once again. It's funny to think that just a few years ago i hated the genre and now I listen to country over anything else.
3. The list doesn't really reflect my expansion in musical tastes. Blues, Jazz, 70's rock, I listen to so much and yet my songs of the month make it look like i only listen to country and rock.
4. This is my 4th year of Soundtracks and I have no intention of stopping!
5. Jason Aldean had 5 songs in the year. Those are two songs from two separate albums, not from the same one.
6. This year i rediscovered Vinyl and along with that - Fleetwood Mac!
7. I still have the greatest musical taste out of anyone i know, lol!

January: Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks
February: Menomena – Muscle’N Flow
March:  Jason Aldean - Fly Over States
April: The Shins - Caring Is Creepy
May: Tracy Lawrence Feat. Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney - Find Out Who Your Friends Are
May (Extra): Turning Page - Sleeping At Last
June: Eric Church - Springsteen
July: Matt & Toby - Good Boys
August: Led Zeppelin - Going to California
September: Karla Davis - Payphone (Cover)
October: Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
November: Jason Aldean - Drink One For Me
December: Brad Paisley - Southern Comfort Zone

Happy New Year Everybody!!

Song Of The Month (December): Brad Paisley - Southern Comfort Zone

This song is the December song simply because I love it. I know nothing of the south or their way of life. I am a Northern Cali Boy. It does however remind me of smalltown life. I was born in a small country town and whenever i go back there and drive dirt roads, fish  in canals or watch the sun set into the mountains I feel happy to know that this is my home. Now i live in woodland which is still small but closer to the city. Life is different there. This song brings a sense of nostalgia with it that reminds me of my past. That is why it is the last song of the month for 2012!

Brad Paisley - Southern Comfort Zone

When your wheelhouse is the land of cotton,
The first time you leave it can be strange, it can be shocking

Not everybody drives a truck, not everybody drinks sweet tea
Not everybody owns a gun, wears a ball cap boots and jeans
Not everybody goes to church or watches every NASCAR race
Not everybody knows the words to "Ring Of Fire" or "Amazing
Grace"

Chorus:
Oh, Dixie Land,
I hope you understand
When I miss my Tennessee Home
And I've been away way too long
I can't see this world unless I go
Outside my Southern Comfort Zone

I have walked the streets of Rome, I have been to foreign lands
I know what it's like to talk and have nobody understand
I have seen the Eiffel Tower lit up on a Paris night
I have kissed a West Coast girl underneath the Northern Lights
I know what it's like to be the only one like me,

To take a good hard look around and be in the minority

And I Miss my Tennessee home
But I can see the ways that I've grown
I can't see this world unless I go
Outside my Southern Comfort Zone

I miss your biscuits and your gravy
Fireflies dancing in the night
You have fed me you have saved me
Billy Graham and Martha White

I have since become a drifter
And I just can't wait to pack
Cause I know the road I leave on
It will always bring me back

(Solo)

Chorus
I wish I was in Dixie Again
I miss my Tennessee Home
And I've been away way too long
I can't see this world unless I go
Outside My Southern Comfort Zone

Look away, look away

Time dragging by!

This year seems to have slowed things down. It has seemed a bit longer than last year. Maybe its because I have enjoyed it more. I have been married for six months now. Married life is fantastic! We have had arguments but for the most part I have learned to have civilized discussions instead of yelling and going for the jugular like my family does. I’m pretty proud of myself for that.

Marriage has made me and my wife more mature. Last night we were talking about how far God has brought us and how he has provide and blessed us and we realized God has been so great to us. This year has been a great one and it has dragged by. I love time moving slowly past us. It allows me to enjoy it more. I have enjoyed every minute of it.

Song Of the Month: Jason Aldean: Drink One For Me

This song reminds me of Chico! Man, I miss Chico. My beautiful hometown.  It’s not really my hometown. I went to Chico State and ended up living in Chico even after I went to school. It became a huge part of my life. I had good friends, a nice place, and an all around good life when I was out there. I had developed a cool identity, a great social group and I was loving every minute of it. When I left, I was heartbroken. Although Chico was great, the job situation out there sucked. And since I got a job in Woodland, I left my home and my friends. Lee, tony, J-may, Phil, Mike, Lai, Matt… all of the buddies continued living their lives and I tried my hardest to keep in touch with them. But the truth of the matter was I was gone and I wasn’t part of the group anymore. The group eventually drifted apart and I miss them all dearly. I still hang out with Lee and Mike every once in a while but of course, it’s different now. We’re all older, wiser, and more experienced with life. We don’t party as hard, we cherish the time we spend together and the good ol Sears day always come up in conversation. And even though it’s different I will always hold a special place in my heart for those guys, that city and those times. I hope that once in a while they will remember me and the times and drink one for me. That’s what this song means to me.

Jason Aldean - Drink One For Me

You don't know how bad,
I wish I was home
Can't wait to get back,
But while I'm gone
Y'all carry on

Drink one for me, for all the old times
We tore up that town, raised hell alright
Tell the boys, thanks for having my back
Some of the best memories I've ever had
So go on and get crazy
And drink one for me

I can't count the miles,
It just feels so far
And it could be a while
'Til I'm where you are
So keep me in your heart

Drink one for me, for all the old times
We tore up that town, raised hell alright
Tell the boys, thanks for having my back
Some of the best memories I've ever had
So go on and get crazy
And drink one

For the ones you can't be with
The ones we'll always miss
And times like this
And times like this

Drink one for me, for all the old times
We tore up that town, raised hell alright
Tell the boys, thanks for having my back
Some of the best memories I've ever had
So go on and get crazy
And drink one for me
Drink one for me

Song of the Month: Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen

Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen

Poor old Johnny Ray
Sounded sad upon the radio
He moved a million hearts in mono
Our mothers cried and sang along
And who'd blame them?
Now you're grown, so grown
Now I must say more than ever

Go, toora loora toora loo-rye-aye
And we can sing just like our fathers

Come on, Eileen
I swear (well, he means)
At this moment you mean everything
With you in that dress
My thoughts, I confess, verge on dirty
Ah, come on, Eileen

These people around here wear beaten-down eyes
Sunk in smoke-dried faces
They're so resigned to what their fate is
But not us, no, not us
We are far too young and clever

Remember, toora loora toora loo-rye-aye
Eileen, I'll hum this tune forever

Come on, Eileen
I swear (well, he means)
Ah, come on, let's take off everything
That pretty red dress
Eileen (tell him yes)
Ah, come on, let's, ah, come on, Eileen, please
